The BVI community joined the Youth of the Seventh-day Adventist churches of the North-Eastern Caribbean for the first ever NCC DrumFest 2008 that was held January 18 - 20, 2008.
The Friday evening's Praise and Worship service did not begin on time due to the late arrival of some of the DrumFest campers, however by 8 p.m., the service had commenced. The musicians Lisbeth Wheatley, Aaron Pope and Kelvin Pope serenaded the congregation beautifully with songs of praise, of the Sabaath and of the Advent. The officiating ministers of the evening were Pastors Oriel Flemming, Howard Simon and Earl Daniel. The higlights of the evening were renditions by D7s and a presentation on Praise and Worship by Rebecca Faulkner. A praise and worship service ensued, with the Praise Team accompanied by Professor Rebecca Faulkner and the other musicians.
Our Sabbath School service began with a rousing singspiration conducted by a few of the Christiansted Ambassadors. The adult lesson was reviewedby Pastor Earl Daniel, District II; and youth lesson was conducted by Drummer Elton, also of the Christiansted Ambassadors.
The highlights of the Sabbath School were two presentations: one by Professor Stanley Ingleheart, of Curacao, on Drumming Then and Now; and the other by Professor Rebecca Faulker on "Music in Preparation for Worship". Another highlight was the Master Guides' Investiture Service in which eight of our members got invested: Colleen Maduro, Norveen Ricketts, Leona Gumbs, Emma Fredericks, Virginia Creque, Sarahvaughn Coteau, Rochalle Smith and Elder Samuel Carlisle Moses Jr. Fourteen members from the sister churches also got invested. Throughout the service, knot boards were on display - one requirement that has to be completed. It was a memorable occasion. Dr. Vincent A. Daid, Education Secretary of the North Caribbean Conference, pronounced the Prayer of Consecration.
On Sabbath afternoon, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Reynell Frazer, briefly addressed the campers, encouraging them to stay on the straight and narrow, and to deter from the ills that beset today's youth. Following, all the drum cores participated in a March of Witness through Raod Town. The event was well supported by the community. The drum cores also participated in a March Pass by the Sunday Morning Well in which they saluted the Chief of Police.
Then the day that was anxiously being awaited came, Sunday, February 20th, 2008. It was a day of continously inclement weather, but the rain could not stop the celebration. The drum cores were briefly addressed by the Minister of Education, Hon. Andrew Fahie, who encouraged them to do what they do to the best of their ability and to encourage their friends to also become members of the drum cores.
Following, the display of talent and energy began. The participating cores were from Saba, St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Croix, St. Thomas and home-base, Tortola. What a grand display it was. It is noteworthy to mention that Advent Heartbeatz, our very own, presented a master exhibition in pouring rain. It is best said in this way: "What God blesses, NO man can curse! It was an experience to remember!
